Do you feel like a grasshopper in the eyes of the giant you are facing? I’m sure your first reaction to that question is “what are you talking about?”; grasshopper, giant, what??? Ok, ok, let me elaborate a little. In Numbers 13 we see God tell Moses to send twelve scouts to spy out the land. This was their Promised Land, a land flowing with milk and honey, the land belonged to them, but there was one problem. The land that belonged to them was already occupied by giants. What do you do when the only thing between you and what God has promised you is a giant, an unmovable force, a great obstacle, not enough money, not enough help, a daunting task, you insert whatever you want there, what do you do when what you see seems gigantic? I’ll tell you what you don’t do, you don’t live in fear.
In verse 20 it says “be of good courage. And bring of the fruit of the land.” (KJV) God told them to be of a good courage (to be bold, brave, and confident) before He sent them to spy out the land. God was actually using this opportunity to bring hope to the people and show them what great things that they were getting ready to partake of. Instead, they reacted in fear. Of the twelve spies they Lord told Moses to send, only two spies heeded God’s word, Joshua and Caleb. The other ten brought this report “we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” (verse 33 KJV) These men operated in fear and unbelief, unbelief in God, a God that has an unwavering love for them.
I love the response of Joshua and Caleb in Numbers 14:7-9…” The land which we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. If the Lord is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us a land which flows with milk and honey. Only do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they will be our prey. Their protection has been removed from them, and the Lord is with us: do not fear them.” (NASB) WOW… what a response. This is a response of men looking at their situation with faith, with a belief that God will provide, and with confidence in an amazing God.
So, I ask you again do you feel like a grasshopper in the sight of a decision that Lord is calling you to make? The Lord is calling many of us into a new dimension a new calling and He wants you to step out in faith and believe that if He called you to it He will bring you through it. Even though giants may be occupying what you have been called to possess, Jesus is that giant killer that will bring you into your land with great victory. Will you trust Him to slay the giant in front of you? He is calling you to strike the blow, to throw the stone in faith and He will make sure it hits its mark. Never let fear keep you from entering into the goodness that God has for you. What situation have you been wrestling with God about that He has put on your heart to do or to enter into, but you fear failure or just cannot see how it can be done. God is attracted by your faith and as you move in that faith He will show up on your behalf. The Lord is now calling people to step out of their complacency, their comfort zone, and into a life with Him; a land of goodness, a land flowing with milk and honey. It will require your Faith and Trust in God. The Israelites chose not to trust God and suffered for it. WIll you Trust Him to lead you today? Be of a good courage, go and possess your land. If God called you to it then you can believe that He will see you through it. Trust Him.
